漫画で日本語がペラペラになった外国人が増えています。その理由は「日本の漫画」は言葉の力を高めるのにとても適しているからです。日本の漫画は英語でも、そのまま“Manga”と呼ばれています。その理由は、英語の“Cartoon”（漫画）とは違う特徴を持っているからです。また日本の漫画は“Graphic novel”（視覚的な小説）と呼ばれることもあります。小説のようなストーリーがあって、場面がコマ送りのイラストになっているからです。これは言葉を身につけるのに必要な「想像力」と「説明力」さらに外国語教育では「直訳しないで話す実践力」を育てるのにとても有効です。私たちは日本の漫画をコミュニケーション教育に効果的に活用する取り組みをしています。

[Manga In Education]

Narrative Skill is one of the early literacy skills that researchers say are important for learners to have in order to learn to read. Narrative skills help learners understand what they hear and read. Narrative Skill is expressive language, including being able to describe things, to tell events in order, and to retell stories. However, telling a story is perhaps the hardest thing to do. Students often say “I don’t know what to talk about” or “I can’t get going”. This leads either to them speaking a load of gibberish or in some cases about a few sentences. Manga is often a good source of inspiration when it comes to story telling.
